All that is required to prevent iPhone from waking up when it is picked up is to disable Raise to Wake feature on your device. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > move the toggle next to Raise to Wake to OFF position.
Once, the Raise to Wake feature is switched off on your device, you will no longer find your device automatically waking up when it is picked up or carried around.
