1. Enable Haptic Feedback in Keyboard
Haptic feedback for the Apple keyboard is turned off by default on an iPhone. Therefore, you must enable it first in order to use it, otherwise, keyboard haptics will not work. To enable haptic keyboard feedback on iPhone on iOS 16, follow these steps:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Go to Sounds & haptics followed by Keyboard feedback. Note: You will see the Keyboard feedback option only if you are on iOS 16. So, make sure to update to iOS 16. If you cannot update, learn how to fix iOS 16 not installing.
- Enable the toggle next to Haptic. That’s it. Now open Apple Keyboard in any app and you will feel the tiny vibrations when you type something.
2. Turn Haptic Feedback Off and On
If Haptic keyboard feedback was already enabled in the above settings, you must re-enable it. For that, follow steps 1 and 2 of the above method i.e., go to Settings > Sound & haptics > Keyboard feedback, Then, turn off the toggle next to Haptic for a second or two and then enable it again. Similarly, disable and enable the Sound option or vice versa based on the current setting.
3. Restart Phone
After trying the above two fixes if haptics is still not working on your iPhone, simply restart the phone. That will fix any temporary bug or issue that could be affecting haptics. To restart your iPhone, press and hold the Power button until you see the Power slider. Drag the slider towards the right to turn off your iPhone. Once turned off, turn on your iPhone again by pressing and holding the Power button again until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
4. Turn on Vibration in Accessibility
Apple offers a system-wide setting to turn off vibration entirely on your iPhone. If your iPhone’s vibration setting is disabled, the keyboard haptics won’t work.
- To enable it, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch.
- Enable the toggle next to Vibration.
5. Use Apple Keyboard
Not all keyboards support haptic feedback. iOS 16 brings the haptic feedback feature only to the Apple Keyboard. Therefore, if you use multiple keyboards on your iPhone, make sure to switch to the Apple Keyboard first. For that, touch and hold the Globe icon (or the three-dot icon) at the bottom-left corner of the current keyboard and select Next keyboard from the menu until you reach the Apple Keyboard. Then start typing and you should feel the vibration.
6. Reset Settings
If nothing seems to fix keyboard haptics on iOS 16, you must reset the settings on your iPhone. Doing so will reset all the settings like notifications, permissions, location, etc., to their default values. However, your personal data and files will not be deleted.
- To reset settings, go to Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone.
- Tap on Reset followed by Reset all settings. Hopefully, your issue of the iOS 16 haptic keyboard not working will be resolved after resetting the settings on your iPhone.
